Easily carved with lino tools and painted, like balsa wood. Soft density does not require sharp tools. Hard density is slightly harder to carve but holds intricate detail. Has no “memory” so will hold an impression by pressing an object into the surface. A steel ruler can make push cuts. Carving knives and chisels glide through and most glues work including wood glue, hot glue. Surface takes water-based or solvent-based paint.
A strong, gutsy, 16# hand building body, excellent for burnishing and has good green strength. Smooth enough for throwing, it fires a salmon pink to deep, rich orange depending on the firing temperature. An excellent clay for school use, modeling sculptural busts or making garden ornaments etc. Fired with a suitable earthenware glaze to 1100ºC, this clay is ideal for all general hand building purposes. Bisque Temp 1000ºC - 1100ºC Glaze Temp 1100ºC Terracotta clays can be used without glaze at 1000ºC - 1200ºC.

Natural Sandstone is great for sculpture as it is easy to work with and resistant to weathering. Much heavier than hebel but smoother. Suitable for senior students and adults. . The blocks are a heavy 60 kilos. . Dimensions: 240mm x 290mm x 660mm . Sandstone is more delicate than hebel to work. . Best carved with files and rasps and sand papers etc. . Any vigorous hammering, drilling or chiseling may crack the stone. . Sandstone is full of moisture which dries out over time. . It has a lovely smooth finish when sanded. . Always wear a mask and safety glasses when carving.
Used by Disney studios in the USA, high density expanded polystyrene EPS foam blocks are ideal for creating large lightweight sculptures. Glue together with Foam Fusion. Cut with Hot Wire Foam Cutters and then sand with rasps etc.
Foam surface can be sealed with Foam Coat Finish and then painted.
Replica stone-like and waterproof finishes can be achieved using Foam Coat Grit.
Add the grit to the foam coat finish.

Seal surface with MM12 Clear Sealer, Gesso or Pastel Primer. Varnish with Spray Varnish Gloss, or MM14 Turps Based Gloss Varnish. (Wheels not included.)
